Record number of needs of emergency housing assistance

Around 700 students this fall so far contacted the Emergency Room Service in Umeå in hopes of residence. That means a new record - the previous year, the number has remained at about 600 applicants.

Anna-Lena Löfgren at Umeå municipality says that of the 700 who contacted the Emergency Room Service , which as of this year, driven by Umeå Student Union , has about 200 have accepted an offer.
- All those who have contacted us have received an offer . Those who reject end of the queue and must wait for something new as we go through the list again. But the students contact other housing agencies and many have thus arranged accommodation on their own.
Where do the students?
- There is no dream accommodations when we do not have the attractive stocks that many believe. This often involves campsites and inherent situations. I know that among other places at the camp in Vännäsvägen has been conveyed .
Anna-Lena Löfgren said that the previous year, when the worst application pressure subsided, worked well to reduce opening hours to one day a week , but that this year had been needed more.
- Just this year, with so many candidates , it is unfortunate and we'll evaluate and see what we can do for next year.

In September SIGNED Umeå students a lease for a house on Main Street 7 , West of town. This , after the necessary renovations, generate eleven apartments. Linus Lundström , President of the Umeå Student Union , said that the renovations are going well and that the apartments are scheduled for completion in late October. There will be some special application rules for these accommodations , but they are mediated by Emergency Room Service.
- Those who are in the queue will be offered a place as , and there will be no problem filling the rooms.

ANNA - LENA LÖFGREN welcomes renovation and argues that the need is in the highest degree. She says that these are most likely to become the most attractive apartments offered .
- Who would not want to live there, in an apartment in central town. They will be filled on a minute, says Anna-Lena Löfgren with a laugh.
